Cross Section: Boundary line segments

This dialog is opened if entire boundary or one of its line segments is selected and edit selected item icon is pressed.

Dialog has three tab pages:

Line segments tab page contains following information:

SettingDescription
Segment index

This is an index of boundary line segment. This may change if some of boundary line segments are deleted or new ones are inserted. A switch to next or previous line segments can be done by pressing left or right icon (half second movement transition is shown in preview window).

Boundary name

This box is used for boundary name. It can be changed in General tab page.

Boundary type

One of the types: outer boundary, boundary as a hole, boundary as closed constraint, boundary as opened constraint. This parameter can be changed in csboundrel dialog.

Construction line

Every boundary line segment is sitting on a construction line. The name box is used for construction line name. Construction line name can not be changed here.

Length

This is display only information. It shows total length of the boundary line segment. This value may help for easier choosing of value for absolute type of subdivision point.

Ignore when meshing

Sometimes if boundary as constraint is generated within outer boundary, user may not want that particular line segment of the constraint is sent to mesh engine.

Subdivision point properties

The List of subdivision points shows all points of the line segment. Selected item from the list is shown here and can be modified if status is not read-only. Subdivision point can be defined by intersection between boundary line segment and construction line, or by relative or absolute distance from line segment starting point. Absolute or relative value can also be set through variable.

If status of the point is Invalid, the data can not be saved until this is fixed. Invalid status occurs if point should be defined by construction line but no construction line is set.

List of subdivision points

This list shows all subdivision points of the line segment. Points with relative distance 0.0 and 1.0 are read-only. Selecting a row in the list highlights the point in preview window and populates subdivision point properties frame. Operations over the list are:

The graphic window is used for showing the boundary in details and can be adapted by free hand symbols. There are many different ways to set what should be shown in the window:

  • construction lines,
  • stiffeners,
  • selected boundary as marked,
  • related boundaries (for example holes of selected outer boundary),
  • non-related boundaries (for example neighboring boundaries),
  • elements as 8-point elements (curved boundary line segments are sent to meshing as set of straight lines and it may be useful to see what is raw data coming from mesher),
  • filled elements (for example to check if really no elements within hole were produced),
  • element points (they may disturb the preview if a lot of elements were produced),
  • auto-elements (they may disturb the preview if interested only into subdivision or shape of the boundary).
